551873 2007-05-21 23:16:00 I'm trying to get my old fax modem to work under Vista. I have it installed as a standard 56000 modem on COM1 - the only one available - but I try to communicate with it and it fails.

I get the "verify that the interrupt for the port is correctly set" message. It is so long since I had to do this, I've forgotten how.

Any one with long memories?

551874 2007-05-21 23:30:00 Are you sure Vista comes with fax program, I believe only some versions have it.
If you are using some other fax software it may not be compatible with Vista anyway.

551876 2007-05-21 23:59:00 A friend of mine is also trying to find out about faxing in Vista. I can't find anything in HELP about faxing in Vista Home Premium. In XP, it is easy to add the PC fax function if it wasn't installed by default.

Is PC fax only available in more expensive version of Vista? If so, that is a backward step from XP!

It doesn't like the driver . I doubt Vista will let you mess with the IRQs, even XP does it itself .

Find a Vista driver for it or get another modem .

Find a Vista driver for it or get another modem.I rather feared that would be the answer. I haven't managed to find a driver. I only need the modem so I can have fax facilities, and I can't actually remember the last time I sent or received a fax, so maybe I'll come into the 21st century and do without it. Go email!
