551802 2007-05-21 19:26:00 Alright, so before I begin, here are my computer specs:

Windows XP Home - SP2
Intel Core-2 Duo E6400 2.13 Ghz processor
Intel DG695RY mobo
EVGA nVidia GeForce 7900GS 256mb (with fan/heatsink)
2x 1GB G.Skill 1.8v heatspreading memory
500W Thermaltake Power Supply
160GB DataMAX HDD @ 7200rpm
Mad Dog DVD Drive/Burner (not really important here ha)

So, here's my problem. The computer ran fine for a little over a month, not having a single problem other than the SP2 error "Power Surge on USB Hub." Then, just four days ago, I woke up to find the USB ports not functioning (my mouse and keyboard lights were off) but the computer was still running. I pulled out the mouse and keyboard (both USB) and plugged them into different USB slots and proceeded to turn my monitor on. Then, my computer randomly restarted itself. I turned off "Automatic Restart upon System Failure." It kept doing it so I popped my Windows CD in my D:/ drive and deleted my current Windows Partition and created a new one. Everything seemed fine until Windows was trying to format my HDD with a new partition. Then, it randomly restarted itself again. SO, I tried to reset the CMOS by taking the battery out, I tried disconnecting the Reset button from the mobo, I tried switching sticks of memory... I still get the same thing - restarts. Sometimes I get the "blue screen of death" which usually doesn't tell me anything other than numbers, although ONE TIME it said "IRQL_does_not_equal..." Before I take my computer in to be professionally looked at, I thought I'd see what I can find. Any thoughts? Keep in mind, when I turn on my computer, the mobo powers the USB ports but for some strange reason, when I plug the VGA from my monitor into the mobo, the monitor just stays in Stand By. Last time that happened, it was a grounding issue. Let me know what your thoughts are! THANK YOU!!

edit: I forgot to mention the possibility of "overheating." I have 2 8mm fans, a 12mm fan, an air duct, a fan on the processor, a fan and heatsink on the gfx card, and self-cooling memory. I checked the temperatures in BIOS and everything was perfectly fine there. I think I have enough cooling anyway.

551803 2007-05-21 21:07:00 Are you using any external USB devices without power. (Its just plugged into a USB port)?

As stated here ? (support.microsoft.com)

I would say that power surge on USB hub error is something similar.

You're using a USB device, thats using too much power (The USB port cant handle it).
