551969 2007-05-22 05:09:00 I got a buddy who installed the "upgrade" that WMP always asks if you want, and he accidentally clicked "ok" . . . then the fun began!

He can no longer view his own videos he took a few years back . . . he says it's the WDRM and since there's no authenticating code on his videos, he can now no longer view them .

WMP11 denies him seeing his own videos . . that's why I am staying away from it .

He then tried to go back to WMP10 . . . and it won't allow the dnld at all . . . same error I get!

I'd like to know if there's any way to delete that pop-in for the upgrade that M$ tells me I need .

Anyway . . . is there any way to "send" a copy from one XP-Pro machine to another? Prolly not .

zgwerty: I got this line of info on that link:

Downloading Windows Media Player 10 . . . Connecting to the Microsoft server . . . this may take a few seconds . If something goes wrong, try clicking here to download from Microsoft . com

. . . then I got the same denial info again . . . . even though for this puter, I am seeking an UPGRADE to WMP10 . . . not a downgrade .

I think Bill Gates is in my shorts now! :horrified

551970 2007-05-22 05:33:00 When you have downloaded from here www.softwarepatch.com
Go to add remove programs and delete the media 11 thingie there, (do the roll back then delete), reboot then install and away you go with wmp10.

551971 2007-05-22 05:36:00 I tried the download just after I posted the link, started the download fine from MS no problems on XP for me, 10megs so I did not complete it, I am on dial up. Used the same link a few days ago to upgrade another XP box to this version of WMP. It was an upgrade from WMP 9, just what you are trying to do Joe. No problems like you are having though. zqwerty (97)

I'll try that in a minute, but remember that I am trying to UPGRADE from WMP9 on this unit . . so I might still try that way . . . just afraid that I won't be able to get back to WMP9 if I cannot get WMP10 either . . . Gack!

BTW: Speedy and all . . . I went to the M$ link and tried to ask them WHY and I got a page telling me ERROR 404 . Even their answer link isn't running . . . Uh huh!

Now . . . tell me again, what DO rats smell like?

551975 2007-05-22 05:42:00 I just Googled the whole error message and got several links to places like that..I guess this is all over the place and very insidious. SurferJoe46 (51)
551976 2007-05-22 05:45:00 I tried the download just after I posted the link, started the download fine from MS no problems on XP for me, 10megs so I did not complete it, I am on dial up . Oh . . . I could get the dnld all right, but after clicking on the . exe part of the installation, I got that error . . . so maybe it's not the actual dnld of the WMP10 that's a problem, just the installation of it .

Now the silly question: I just KNOW that Uncle Billy had someone put that error message in the download . . . right? That must be a recent thing .
