552902 2007-05-25 05:31:00 I have had a look at the NOD32 website. I take it from what I am reading that NOD32 does not include Firewall Protection, just the Anti Virus / Malware etc.

Without getting into a tit for tat as to which AV program or Firewall is best, if NOD32 is just AV, would it run alongside Nortons Firewall if Nortons AV was not included in the install of NIS or is there a more compatible / better Firewall for running with NOD32.

Yes, I am aware that some people don't like NIS/AV, am also aware that NIS/AV can cause problems for some, it has never caused me any concerns over the many years that I have been running it though I am not currently running the latest greatest version of NIS/AV.

I am looking at maybe in couple of months adding more bigger hard drive space, reformat etc at which time NOD32 might be a alternative option to try hence the question above.

Do not use Norton anything.
You probably don't need a fancy firewall. If you have ADSL, you probably have a NAT router. Combine that with the windows firewall & you are just as safe as you would be using the Norton firewall.

Symantec & their competitors have done a good job of brain-washing the masses into believing they need the latest greatest security suite with a million and one different functions, each one able to cause their own special problems.

Nod32 is a brilliant antivirus program, and the fact it doesn't come with a firewall is an advantage, not a disadvantage.

I use Nod 32 and no software firewall apart from the Windows one. I do have a router however - but I would never go anywhere near Norton either way.

552905 2007-05-25 19:57:00 I completely agree re NORTONS . It caused me many problems over the years .

NOD32 is an amzing AV product let down by its confusing interface .

All reviewers mention this fact and recommend it more for expert users .

IMHO the next best AV product is probably BIT DEFENDER which has had excellent reviews and is quite cheap . For a free AV use AVAST .

.

I don't find it confusing at all.
Seems quite clear to me.

552908 2007-05-26 00:23:00 Ah, but its not confusing at all. I agree with pctek plus it depends on your perspective, not some reviewer somewhere. beeswax34 (63)
