| 552657 | 2007-05-24 08:42:00 | Hi about to buy a new laptop with following otions and trying to choose: Intel Core Duo 1.6GHz iGB RAM 80GB SATA 5400rpm HDD Vista Basic Its an HP I can have XP MCE installed instead of Vista for no extra charge I can upgrade to Vista Premium for $45. I can upgrape to Core Duo 1.73GHz for $50 I can upgrade to 2GB Ram for $45 I have XP Pro at home (non OEM) on a PC I plan to bin - should I go with XP MCE, Vista Basic, Vista Premium or XP Pro (with associated licensing probs explaining to MS I have change computers). Should I upgrade the RAM and/or CPU? Thanks. |

| 552658 | 2007-05-24 08:47:00 | If your going with Vista Basic you may as well save yourself some coin and stick with XP since there is stuff all difference between the two. Vista needs 1GB just to operate. What are the main things you use your PC for? I would possibly upgrade both the CPU and the RAM if your getting Vista , and get Vista Home Premium or something decent to make the upgrade worth it. |

| 552659 | 2007-05-24 08:53:00 | Someone I know brought a laptop with Vista Home on it . She didnt really like it, as she couldnt network it, she couldnt go back to XP . As HP said there were no drivers for XP . So, thats something you should check if u decide to use XP on it . Not much use installing the OS, if there are no drivers to install after . |

| 552661 | 2007-05-24 09:00:00 | I s there anything wrong with XP MCE? Because if not, then I should probably go for that with the RAM upgrade. What do you think about the CPU upgrade? BTW the whole thing is going to cost not much more than $1000. I'm going to use it for web and multimedia. NO gaming, some wordprocessing/spreadsheet and thats about it. |

| 552663 | 2007-05-24 09:07:00 | You could try XP MCE, but it would be better on a desktop, not a laptop. And most laptops come with some version of Windows installed already. |

| 552665 | 2007-05-24 09:27:00 | Thats not much of a discount.:eek: Hardly worth the hassel. XP by itself should be pretty sufficient for what you want to do with it. Will you be getting a TV tuner card? The only other option I would consider where multimedia is concerned would be a Mac but that might be outside of your budget. |
