| 552585 | 2007-05-24 08:05:00 | Fair enough I know there is a option to save a excel spreadsheet as a webpage Office 2003 File/ Save As Web Page I want to post this saved page to my web site which seems simple enough, however I want someone else to be able to edit this spreadsheet from the website. Reason is I administer the site but I want someone else who is responsible for a member listing to be able to edit the spreadsheet with these details. I do not want to give this person ftp access to upload their own sheet with changes as I am not even sure I could do so, I do not run the server this is on. Hopefully thats clearer |

From time to time there would be problems, and the link would return an error. That probably wouldn't cause the immediate end of all animate life on the earth. You would need to be very careful with your firewalls and security updates. | Graham L (2) | ||

This is far beyond what we want to do for the site, its simply a gaming site with a member listing. Doing something like that would be overkill |

Excel has some "web" capabilities but these are limited to displaying data. A php/mysql solution is a simple solution if you have access to the skill set. Alternatively you could put the data in a text file, use server side include to produce an SHTML file which presents the data in a webpage correctly formated. To edit this file would only require either a php or cgi script to overwrite the text file. This script only needs to be in a password protected folder on your site, so only admin with credentials can access it. |

| 552591 | 2007-05-24 17:21:00 | I think the simplest way to achieve what you want is to simply create a table in an html page and give the other user ftp access to it. If you'd care to send me the excel doc I could check to see if my idea is feasible, and if yes then I'd gladly do it for you. fatkat at gmail.com |

| 552592 | 2007-05-24 21:00:00 | I appreciate the offer to do it for me but if I went the table route I can easily code that myself, my html will stretch that far :) I don't have the knowledge of PHP and I am not willing to pay a developer for this so thats out. Think I might have to go for a table, a saved excel sheet I have discovered looks like utter crap when intergrated with a website. So few options to check out here but looks like excel isn't going to cut it no matter how its implemented. Cheers for the replies guys, we can let this thread die :) |
