| 552697 | 2007-05-25 09:44:00 | How do you figure that? vista still has all sorts of driver bugs (but getting better), the drm bull**** is a huge hinderance, and you need more expensive harware to run vista. if it weren't for gaming i would seriously look at buying a mac rather than vista. if apple got a larger number of game studios working on mac versions of games and allowed us to build our own custom machines the only barrier would be the slightly different interface, which is the same for vista anyway. and i think bootcamp is pretty funny really - why not just buy a pc and spend the money you would be spending on two operating systems (and more expensive machine) on the software that windows doesn't offer, giving you full compatibility with whatever you want to run? i'm not looking to re-ignite the mac vs pc war again, i'm just saying why as a gamer mac is innappropriate for me, and the irony i see in bootcamp. for what echothreezero want's the only reason not to go mac is cost and software, but considering the amount of open source software out there, and the iLife stuff that isn't a problem either. |

| 552698 | 2007-05-25 09:57:00 | Example: MacBook Pro * 2.16GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo * 1440 x 900 pixels * 1GB memory * 120GB hard drive1 * 6x double-layer SuperDrive * ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM Estimated Ship: within 24 hours Free Shipping NZ$ 3,799.00 I won't bother looking up the cost for a PC notebook but guess it is $2k or less. Come on Steve, that is a half arsed answer. Here's a tin of watties bake beans for $4 but the other one must $2 or less because it is oak |

Vista should be a heck of a lot better than it is after 5 years of development, considering it is still on the same platform. The idea behind both Bootcamp and Parallels is that for the one or two PC only apps that you might need to use on your Intel Mac, you can use it natively on Windows on your Mac with no performance degredation. If games were to really "come over" to the Mac they would be developed to run without any sort of emulation. Yes there are an assortment of free and opensource apps for PC users that do what the iLife bundle does, however you have to find them and find which ones work the best. With iLife you just plug in and go with minimum fuss. Other Mac software in the multimedia dept is pretty much the same cost as for PC and it is all good software. About the only place a PC beats a Mac on cost is on the low to medium "home built" end which is an area that Apple is not trying to compete in. Once you get into the medium to upper pro work station end your Mac will work out better bang for your $$$ check this out, it's from an old MacWorld demo www.youtube.com |

How would Apple win financially if they got into the highly competitive PC gaming market and competed against the likes of the XBox, PS3 and The Wii when you consider the extremely high entry cost faced by the 3 existing competitors and the fact that the Wii is the only one of those coming close to making money (as far as I know)? |

As for games... no big deal, get a PC if your that lost without them. |

[QUOTE=winmacguy;554481] As for games... no big deal, get a PC if your that lost without them. exactly what i've been saying ALL ALONG |

Ironically the Wii is the one console that has picked up the broadest market of new gamers and is making the most money. PS3 had to ditch its creator because it was continuing to prove unprofitable and the Xbox continues to loose hundreds of millions of $$$ for Microsoft. It has never had a profitable year since it was first released. There is no point going into compete if you are just going to burn up billions in cash trying to win customers. |

It is quality of apps not quantity of apps that counts. Well I don't game and I prefer a Mac to a PC, plus I like my security and lack of viruses among other things. |
