552551 2007-05-24 20:35:00 The best cooling solution with case fans is to have one (or more) large 120mm fan in the front low down (infront of the HDD rack) as an intake and have the PSU and maybe another 120mm case fan as outake fans above the cards, that way the cool air comes in from low as it heats up it rises and the PSU and rear case fan suck out the hot air :nerd: The_End_Of_Reality (334)

Maybe there's hope for my glorified paper weight yet.....

Glorified? don't think so....;)

552553 2007-05-25 03:03:00 A good quality PSU is always a good Idea .

The 7600GT does happen to be one of the least power hungry cards in the 7xxx series though, it doesn't even have the seperate power connection and draws something like 45-50 watts under load . A good 400W PSU would be enough with this card .

An 8800GTS by contrast can draw approx 130 watts and nvidia recommends a PSU with a minimum of 26amps on the 12V rail

Your machine would take any current PCI-E graphics card, but the 3G P4 would prevent you getting the full performance out of the top end models (but hey as long as the framerates are reasonable who cares) .

You could put an 8800GTX in, but that would probably be silly . The cheaper 320M version of the 8800GTS or the new 8600GT could still be allright for your machine as possibly future upgrades .

A final point - if you can find a 7900GS for a reasonable price they perform quite a bit better that the 7600GT, not enought to be worth replacing an existing 7600GT, but worth considering for a new purchase ( 7900GS = 7800GT architecture with higher clock speed and nearly matches 7900GT )

yep, although i find getting a case with a bit of ducting to allow you to suck cool air directly onto the cpu is a good idea

exhaust top and rear, intake sides and front.... where's my digital camera?
