| 553731 | 2007-05-30 06:09:00 | "Compatible" doesn't mean "exactly the same, in all respects". Imagine the slavering of the Microsoft lawyers if this was the case. Basically, I think it means: "can use files from, and create files usable by, the other one". I'd browse and use any search tool on that documentation (documentation.openoffice.org) site. I am imagining that slavering! Cheered me up no end. However I am still no nearer finding out how to enter times and dates by keystrokes. I don't believe the users of OPEN OFFICE do it manually all the time. But so far although I have read absolute piles of documentation and tried just about every key combination I can think of I have had no luck. Somebody out there must know how to do it. Tom PS I have tried the support in OPEN OFFICE and left a message for them. But of course a reply could be a long time arriving. |

| 553733 | 2007-05-30 22:16:00 | Thanks Graham again. Had already tried this & umpteen other Google entries but still not got what I am looking for. I am amazed - I would have thought that everybody who used any sort of OFFICE type program would be entering dates and times with simple key clicks rather than looking it up and entering it manually. And there must be thousands of people using OPEN OFFICE. But still no simple solution has come my way. I have another problem solved with OPEN OFFICE. I was worried that the small icon on my taskbar - the only access I have to the program kept vanishing so that I had to go through installing the program again each time I used it. The last time it did it (this morning) I tried writing a desktop icon. This time I was allowed me to finish it. And when I clicked on it, the small icon on my taskbar appeared again - a somewhat clumsy way of going to the program but it works. |

Or haven't you reached the part of the documentation which tells you how to insert macros? ;) Sorry I don't know ... I've always avoided spreadsheets. :( | Graham L (2) | ||

I've always avoided spreadsheets. :( Well I am going round in circles but one thing is becoming obvious, that I have to now state that OFFICE and MSWORKS are better! Wow that hurt a bit. But it is apparent that there is no keyboard short cut in OO for date and time entry, which is astonishing and makes it useless for many of the jobs I have done in the past. (I once insisted my students clocked in for their lessons by using MSWorks - my laptop was open and each student merely entered their name and clicked for the time entry.) Simple and effective. I must tell my friend to get OFFICE or MSWORKS> End of story. Tom |
