553157	2007-05-25 19:54:00	Have several partitions on 2 HDD's and have 2 different linux OS's only one partition is owned ad grouped by root the others are all owned and group 1000.How can I get them all as root or my user name.I have the same user and root name and passwords for each OS.	kjaada (253)
553158	2007-05-26 02:45:00	chown and chmod do that ... But root will have full rights on everything. That's what root is. And I'm not quite sure why you would want to change ownership of partitions. When partitions are created (usually in the installation of an OS) they get default ownership (so they can be used), and when directory trees are created they get appropriate permissions, which are usually inherited by files and subdirectories as they are created. A boot partition will probably be owned by root, and have very limited permission for anyone else, because noone else should mess with that.	Graham L (2)
553159	2007-05-26 04:26:00	The reason I am looking at permissions is that I have a .sh file that brings up the text file for the shell when I try to activate it and I have found in the past this is because of permissions not being right.The shell works in one OS which shows my user name as owner but not in the other OS which says 1000 is the owner.	kjaada (253)
