| 554371 | 2007-05-30 05:42:00 | Hi, I have had a 256/128k connection with Slingshot for the last 6 months and have been satisfied for the most part with connection. But recently (last 6 weeks or so) my online poker client has been having severe lag and connection problems. It seems like it isn't getting enough bandwidth to maintain a connection and keep up with the pace of the game. Other net apps are still running fine but sometimes browsing is going slow. I have tried speed tests and get: 120kbps up 120kbps down This is during peak hours Then I tried it during the day yesterday and got: 360kbps up 120kbps down How are these speed for the connection I have? Normal? Slow? Also, what is the typical order/procedure for finding out what is slowing down the connection? From some of my readings on various forums it sounds like maybe the exchange (whangarei) is getting overloaded. Anyone know anything? It's a rather dramatic change between evening and daytime (3x). I have thought about upgrading to a 2mb plan - but will this actually help? It seems unfair to have to pay more for a connection when I am already not getting what I pay for. It's possible I have a virus or spyware but I run: -AVG -Spyot -Adware SE -Hijack This (will try posting a log later on tonight) -CCleaner And all seem to be clean. Any help would be appreciated. |

| 554374 | 2007-05-30 10:17:00 | M with slingshot and to be honest .. it sucks! Especially after 6pm.. its like I m on dial up. I too play online games but can only play in the mornings and during the day. I get a ping of around 60 - 80. After 6pm its just impossible to play. But I dont really mind cos I m just there for the 25GB data cap for only $50/month. Speed is not always an issue for me. | ronyville (10611) | ||

[edit] OK, I see you are on the Max/128 account - if that slows down I would be ticked off - how slow is it according to the tests? I am on Slingshot 256/128 for nearly a year and and happy with the price and huge data cap. I do notice in the early evening that it slows down although not as bad as dialup. In the evenings dialup also slowed down. It seems to me that all broadband connections would be subject to peak time slow downs due to local congestion rather than national all-ISP users. Someone here must know the facts. |
