554227 2007-05-29 13:49:00 Hi there all. My brother has been using an old farm financial program for a good few years. I managed to get it working under XP but recently installed another 512MB of ram and now when running the report module it comes up with the error that there is not enough memory.
Does anyone know of a program or way of fooling the module into thinking there is only 512MB of ram as whipping a stick out to run the report is not very practical.

554229 2007-05-30 06:36:00 check your virtual memory settings. you also proberly havn't increased it due to the ram upgrade. tweak'e (69)
554230 2007-05-30 06:47:00 This is an "old" programme, possibly written for DOS. It's not going to suddenly find an extra 512MB too little. The insufficient memory message might be from looking at a truncated value caused by using a variable which can't hold the full number. 1GB is bigger than 640kB. I think the trick will be telling the programme that it's running in a small DOS-sized computer. 2MB of extended memory might be enough. :D Graham L (2)
554231 2007-05-30 11:05:00 apsattv did that to get the program running in the first place as well as all the modules. They reckoned that it could not be run under XP.

Tweak I will certainly give it a try when get on his PC later next week but as Graham has said about the variable I don't think it will work.

Graham It was made for Win95. I figured that the programmer had used the wrong type (although it wasn't back then) of integer as a variable. It is strange that it is only in the Report module that it happened. I haven't actually tried running anything under Wine before but I would imagine I might be able to alot a set amount of memory and hence achieve the desired result.

554233 2007-05-30 15:38:00 Farm Manager has a whole range of updated programmes, several versions of which happily work on Win XP.

Your brother may need to look into getting one of these.

The programme even does pay slips.
