2007-05-29 01:22:00 | Can anyone please please help with a few VISTA Home Premium problems ? I bought an Vista upgrade in Feb 07 from XP SP2 after reading the PC world hype in November 2006 "Vista - Its Love " !!!! The upgrade didn't do its thing - I was left with a semi crippled system which told me my VISTA was illegal and it wouldnt install - then it installed for a while then crashed with the same story . With some help from M/Soft I got this fixed - then the Windows one care/Windows security refused to work; has always said that there is a serious problem with it and to contact MS - after several phone calls and details being filled in on the web - Im still stuck with the problem which M/S has washed their hands of - I was told how to uninstall One Care but this doesn't happen as the one care firewall opens itself without notice after being re-set and my system is full of viruses and trojans which are removed only for a while - until the trojans start again !!! Another old program of mine PowerDesk 6 which was very good but now a total liability also keeps getting in the way - also cant get rid of it, will NOT uninstall !! I need a foolproof way of getting this fixed or good advice also welcomed Yours Ian Forsyth

Remember how everyone swore that SP2 was bad and ruined their systems? It was malware there too..that and a late install on an already corrupted system that made it pure hell. If you try to install Vista in a corrupted system, it ain't gonna run well if at all in the first place. Like I said, the upgrade stuff isn't working well...I really REALLY recommend a full format and clean install of Vista....Just an opinion backed up by fact. I'll bet...if you ask Sir Speedy, that he suspects the same too as he would like a HJT log to see for hisself. |

2007-05-29 02:37:00 | And Onecare isnt exactly the best AV program to use . It failed in tests last month . Or a few weeks ago .

2007-05-29 02:58:00 | Yeah . . . I agree and I warned all the people on my net that OneCare is junk . . that and it took over ALL the security for itself . It ruins other AV systems and tries to kill them . . . actually it DOES kill them . No one do-it-all system will work decently . . . some are weak in certain areas, and others are just too confusing to use . . . while even others are geek-y and nerd-y to the max . Send Speedy the HJT log and let's get this started . . . . . lol

2007-05-29 04:52:00 | Absolutley. Clean install is the way. An upgrade even on a brand new install of xp is considerable slower than a clean install. I know this from experience. Have seen it multiple times. One machine (1.6ghz athlon, 768MB RAM 80GB HDD) wa completley crippeled after an upgrade. It would barely run, HDd would run flat out for hours on end and nothign would happen. Blow it away and do a clean reinstall.. good as gold. well almost. but you get the idea:thumbs: | wratterus (105) | |
