| 553963 | 2007-05-28 10:47:00 | I have a temp folder that was created in my D (data) partition on my HDD when I was running a SQL Server 2005 service pack update (can't remember which one now, but it's probably not important) from my external HDD. This particular service pack crashed/froze part way through, so I rebooted and moved the service pack executable onto my local HDD and re-ran it successfully. Problem is, when I now try to delete the previously created folder, I get an "Access Denied" error. I tried using Knoppix to access/delete without success. I also downloaded Unlocker, but that also is unable to delete the file. It tells me "No locking handle found". If I choose the option to delete at this point, when I press <OK>, it tells me that "The object cannot be deleted" and offers to "perform the request delete at next reboot". If I choose yes at this point, it fails to delete the folders/files at next reboot... Safe Mode is also a no go - gives the same "Access Denied" message. The folder name is "f2c6672f8719ce0b20953e" with another folder called "update" underneath it with a number of files in the "update" folder (can't remember what they are now - can only see them using Knoppix; XP Pro (SP2) won't let me access the folder to view the contents)... Anyone got any ideas? This is more of an annoying problem than a show-stopper.... |

Choose your name from the Name list. Tick "Replace owner on sub-containers and objects" and click OK. Click yes to the warning that appears. Delete it, if this fails try it in "Safe" mode. |

| 553965 | 2007-05-28 12:03:00 | ???? Hmmm. I don't seem to have a Security tab in the Properties window.... I have "General", "Sharing", "Web Sharing" and "Customize" tabs only. There is an <Advanced> button on the General tab that allows different attributes to be set, but nothing on ownership... | johcar (6283) | ||

| 553968 | 2007-05-29 09:22:00 | Thanks guys. Looks like I might have to live with the undeleteable folder. Logged on in Safe Mode as Administrator and gave my usual login full control of the folder using zqwerty's link advice. Still unable to delete. (Can't even delete it in Safe Mode as Administrator!!) Downloaded MoveOnBoot. Followed the wizard - still no go... I have however been able to rename the persistent little bugger (top level folder only) to 'z' - so at least it's now not in my face... : sigh! : I guess I could reformat the partition... |
