553914 2007-05-28 08:56:00 Hi all , my problem goes like this,
I walk away from the computer, the screen turns off after 10mins., I return after about an hour , click mouse, the screen lights up, but no internet. The modem (DSL 502T ) is still connected at 4442kbps. It's as if the computer has disconnected from the modem, (ethernet) am I missing a setting?. Does not happen if I return after say 15-20 mins. My power options are set at :- Turn off screen--10mins. Hard drives--Never, Standby--Never. Running XP sp2.
I do a restart and all ok again. Thanks for any help.

553915 2007-05-28 10:12:00 You have the modem on ethernet or USB?

USB has a "sleep" mode too, if you look in Device Manager, properties of each USB root hub, power management.

553920 2007-05-29 08:32:00 btw ethernet cards are also turned off in some power saving modes. check the ethernet cards propeties for a "allow this device to be turned off to save power" tweak'e (69)
553921 2007-05-30 05:00:00 Many thanks for that tweak'e you hit the nail fair on the head, that was the setting I was looking for, all sweet again. jebby (4580)
