554246 2007-05-29 17:57:00 Hello members
I am having troubles with a Brother MFC 7820N multifunctiion machine. It has been going for at least a couple of years without a hitch.
Now I seem to have dificulties connecting over the LAN. First I thought it may be cables; so I changed them, tried shorter ones and all of a sudden it would be working again. Then the next morning, without doing anything, it wouldn't work. Uninstalled all software, restarted, cleaned with registry cleaners, installed again, start up and to my surprise it would work again till the next restart and then not anymore.
And I repeated this various times.
Connected through the USB port and it is still working perfectly and also after restarts. Also to mention is that the connection port light at the router is not lighting up when the problem is active.
Has anyone an idea what this could be or had similar problems?

Thanks
NT

554247 2007-05-29 19:49:00 when it fails, print a config page (get ip from it) or try and ping it.
Sometimes the network cards need a factory reset (hp do this sometimes also).
To find out how to factory reset consult your mannual or ring a brother agent.

I have pinged at various times, and just a minute ago two pings worked and two timed out. If I am lucky for some reason I may get a days work and then it will stop after the comp restart. Does that may point to a potential problem on the computer side?
Do you mean a reset the card on the MFC Brother? I have done that some time ago and will try again.
As the factory network settings are out of the range I have set it to suit my setup, does that may upset it?

NT

shouldn't do
just make sure you reset them after resetting the NIC

good luck

554250 2007-05-30 10:55:00 The port light out indicates there is no connection on ethernet.

The problem may well be internal to the printer on the network adapter.

554251 2007-05-30 23:43:00 The 7820 doesn't have a seperate network adapter, the NIC is built into the main PCB.
You may be better contacting a Brother service agent and letting them have a look.

554252 2007-05-31 06:34:00 worth a try,

hps are part of the main board also and you can factory reset them (just the nic)

554253 2007-05-31 06:50:00 Thanks to all of you!
It is very frustrating as it works right now and well knowing it won't tomorrow morning. Someone suggested to me it may be the spoolsv.exe? One thing that makes me think it could be on the computer side is that I may be able to get it working, like right now. Most likely and that is what has been the case so far, it won't work after restart.
Has anyone of you ever had to modify(replace) the spoolsv.exe?
Would I have to do a repair install of the OS?

Regards

554254 2007-05-31 07:32:00 The connection light is not very likely a software issue, you should be thinking "intermittent hardware failure", digging a hole a suitable size and getting rid of the problem, rather than chase PC software issues?

If the NIC built into the printer has a glitch, working with the PC side of things will not fix it.
