554173 2007-05-29 06:47:00 If I use Microfoft Backup (W98SE) for backing up files of 650mb and then copying them onto CD can I restore everything back onto the hard drive after partitioning it? Krad (7878)

No.

MS Backup would backup data. If you just want the entire install reloaded as is, its better to image it with something like Ghost or Acronis.

554176 2007-06-01 01:46:00 In my experience MS Backup can also be rather unreliable when it comes to restoring stuff. Something like Cobian Backup (sourceforge.net) is probably a better bet.

[edit: Note that cobian isn't an imaging program. If you want to image, repartition and restore then follow pctek's advice.]
