554177 2007-05-29 04:43:00 Hi, we have a network computer here. We need a program to lock a folder so that only certain employee on the network can access it. Can window XP do it or can anyone please suggest a good program to use? Thanks

I done a search on internet, some is useless because once u unlock the forder, people on the network still can access it. I think i need something that require a password everytime anyone try to access the folder.

554180 2007-05-29 09:11:00 PGP is a option though I am not familair with it. We used Scramdisk while still using WinME, works on both ME and 98, won't work under XP so we switched to DriveCrypt, 128 blowfish encryption, multiple passwords is a option. Scramisk works the same way. Both create a invisible partition within a partition that is accessed via Windows Explorer or other service once the password is entered making the partition visible. Minimum size I think is about 2000mb ? PinoyKiw (9675)
554181 2007-05-29 15:06:00 If it's a corporate network... fire the current IT team. Hire a new IT team and get them to modify or apply NTFS permissions to the folder you want to protect. That way only users who have the appropriate access will be able to view the folder's contents.

This is of course assuming you're using Win 2000/XP Pro/Server 2003 etc.

554182 2007-05-29 22:14:00 TrueCrypt or Folder Guard

Both are the first results that come up when searching for the name in Google. Depending on exactly WHAT you're after depends on the app you should go with.

Folder Guard is quick, easy, fun, and does lots more.
TrueCrypt is 100% secure, even in the event the military gets hold of your HDD (Well, if you do it right that is ;) )

554183 2007-05-30 00:30:00 I'd have to go with Chill and recommend TrueCrypt also. It's the flavour of the month (meaning quite popular at the moment) and is rightly so because it's an awesome solution. It encrypts drives, partitions or just a block of your harddrive and when you want to use it, you go through TrueCrypt and mount it using a password. It's got a really good feature set and one of the good ones is that it's free.

Although, I'm not sur if this would be right for you having it available over a network and easily accessible. Worth a look though.

554184 2007-05-30 00:38:00 If you have a IT department than why not ask them to put that particular folders on a separate drive on the server if available and only allow certain employees access to that drive.. .. ronyville (10611)
