554872 2007-06-01 03:07:00 Just got an update from FF and got informed that the JavaScript is being disabled as it won't work with the new update...so....

In a different area I see this now:

Google releases a new Javascript API dubbed GEARS that adds offline support for web applications. Both IE and Firefox have browser plugins that work on Windows, Mac and Linux machines. Google Reader is updated for the new toolkit
(feeds.wired.com)
Is this the right thing to do..getting GEARS, that is?

Isn't YouTube run on the Java codec?

554873 2007-06-01 04:45:00 I noticed this too when I download the FF update last night - I assume there will be a fix coming, but since I am an Opera user, it doesn't worry me too much... johcar (6283)
554874 2007-06-01 06:16:00 I thought it was: Java Console 6.0.01 which was made incompatible by the update to 2.0.0.4, I haven't noticed any difference in operation besides this warning. zqwerty (97)
554875 2007-06-01 08:56:00 I have had no problems. You tube works fine. Yahoo mail which also relies on javascript works well.

I have heard this on a number ofPC related sites, but I haven't had any real proof its true - can anyone post a link to a website where javascript doesn't work because of the update?

Might have to check out something on YouTube to find out since I just downloaded the latest FF update. YouTube is also going to start using the h.264 codec for all of their video clips.

Edit: just checked out some videos on youtube and had no problems viewing them.

554877 2007-06-01 09:53:00 Lucky u got something to say there was an update.

I dont get any notification of any update (dont know if u do or not, I've never seen one), even if I select check for updates, there's nothing.

I have to find out some other way, then get it myself.

But Java is fine here. Didn't had a prob after I updated it, or Opera.

554879 2007-06-01 12:14:00 i received the same firefox notification that it was going to install the update but like the others it failed. I havent yet noticed any changes eg youtube still runs fine. Term_X (560)
554880 2007-06-01 12:49:00 Just to state the obvious Java and Javascript are completely different things Morgenmuffel (187)
554881 2007-06-01 13:16:00 Same here, youtube and other javascript based sites still work fine well, when I let no-script allow them:D beeswax34 (63)
