Might depend on what program you're using, if Nero and its OEM it'll only work with the burner it came with.

Unless u have a serial that isnt OEM, then both burners should work.

And if it isnt an OEM version of Nero, then you've jumpered or configured the burners wrong.

That sounds like the problem. Since it can be opened in "newer" laptops.
