555286 2007-06-02 02:43:00 Hi all,
I have a xbox for the kids which is now not working. This usually means that i spend a lotta money to get it fixed (or newer model) and my life is H*** until this thing is fixed.
Is there any experts that maybe able to help. What is happening is when i insert a disc it comes up with a message that this cannot be read as it maybe damaged dirty of broken. It is happening with all discs inserted. Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a peanut butter glob on the laser lens.

555288 2007-06-02 03:46:00 If the DVD drive is faulty, it will probably be faster & cheaper to get someone to chip it & install a normal drive than it would be to get an official xbox DVD drive. Greven (91)
555289 2007-06-02 04:39:00 when did you buy it? i hear the first ones out shat their pants pretty quickly and needed replacement.

555290 2007-06-02 06:57:00 An Xbox replacement drive / laser could set you back between $60-80 which isnt too bad really :)

You can check on xbox-scene.com for how-to's on tweaking the laser which had a bit of luck for me, but realistically it'll be on its last legs, so start saving now for another drive.

I actually had the same problem, but now my optical drive has fully died & it wont boot at all unless I put somebody elses optical drive in :(

555291 2007-06-02 13:28:00 It would help if we knew if it was an original xbox or 360.
I am assuming it is an original xbox.

For the price you would pay to replace the dvd drive you could almost by a 2nd hand xbox.

555292 2007-06-04 02:10:00 sorry for not keeping up with the responses. As i expected, this is one of the first models out so looks like better to update and use this box for some experimentation.
thanks for the replies.
