I did install it, restarted, but nothing changed.

556024 2007-06-07 00:06:00 Windows update fix... there was a thread on this before...

I have fixed far too many PCs with this issue...the MS fix does not work either. Heres what you need to do:thumbs:

start\run type in: net stop bits
start\run type in: net stop wuauserv

go to: go.microsoft.com

you may want to google that just in case i made a spelling mistake lol.

download and install the windows update agent 2...just run the file you download when you go to that link...

then delete c:\windows\software distrubution
and delete c:windows\windowsupdate.log or .txt or something.

then start the bits (backgroud intelligent transfer service) and update service again....it will re-create those folders/files.

start\run: net start wuauserv
start\run: net start bits

it should fix your problem!!

556025 2007-06-08 10:39:00 Ah, damn.

Thanks a lot for your help, you got me the furtherest out of all solutions, but it is still not working.
I went on to Windows Updates and the page loaded fine, and then I chose 'Express'. It loaded, and came to the "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer" problem. I chose "Register or reinstall the files for me now", and it did so I thought it might work. But then when it went back to the Updates page and I chose Express again, it gave me the same damn thing...
I've tried your solution several times, but it isn't doing anything more.

Aaarggh....
