556656 2007-06-07 02:56:00 these annoyances were most likely from a machine slapped together by careless workers.
Mystix

These annoyances are caused by Dell outsourcing everything and using crap components in their machines.

Not careless workers.

And Nortons is a piece of Crap too. If it didn't work properly editing registry entries certainly wouldn't have cured it.

I'd say your graphics chip has crapped out.

Abandon the thing now and get a real PC with quality components form a local shop.

556658 2007-06-07 08:54:00 I have to say... it looks like it is booting with the lights/HDD activity... as others have said... looks to be the GFX chip... you could get an AGP card (if the motherboard is AGP which it SHOULD... (might not be)

But I personally would say bye bye to it and get a decent thing from a PC shop as PCTek has suggested.

556659 2007-06-07 08:57:00 That looks like a video problem. The screen should not stay black. You should at least see the activity of the POST.

Check that the video plug is not damaged. Pins can get bent. It's not very easy to straighten them. :( A delicate touch is needed.

556660 2007-06-07 09:00:00 I reckon you got the one they put together from all the returned dodgy parts, not much you can really do, you'd probably end up replacing everything just to find the PSU was killing everything or something anyway, save yourself money and hassle and yeah, probably just buy another from a normal PC shop, get rid of the dell on trademe as in "dodgy condition" :D Agent_24 (57)
