556339 2007-06-07 02:05:00 I had a similar problem. Took me ages to figure out that I needed a drive setup programme. The instructions should be on the top of the physical hard drive. (I had a Seagate drive too)

Of course, in my case I was keeping the motherboard, and just adding a second drive, so your case is slightly different. Might give you something to go off though.

Hope this helps.

556340 2007-06-07 08:46:00 It doesn't work on his old motherboard anymore, and other HDD's don't work on the new motherboard.

You could try updating the BIOS (if there's a new version)It doesn't work on his old motherboard after he has unplugged/replugged the cables. Others don't work on that board, presumably on the same, unplugged/replugged, cable. That's what has been changed. That's where to look for the problem.

Updating the BIOS is BAD ADVICE. Changing something unrelated is a sure road to disaster.
