556937 2007-06-07 07:26:00 Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a lcd screen, but there are so many makes and thing to consider. I'm wanting something with a fast refresh rate, for gaming. I'm after a 19" or 20". And one that is below $500
Is there any brands you would recommend or brands to stay away from??

Any help would be great.

556938 2007-06-07 07:52:00 What are your main computing requirements, do you need a highly colour accurate screen or one that is good for gaming? winmacguy (3367)

I would like one that's good for gaming but also good for digital photo editing.
So one that covers both requirements would be good, but other wise just gaming.

Thanks

556940 2007-06-07 09:12:00 Dell offer a number of 19" flat screen models there is the 198wfp widescreen at $349 or 1908fp at $499 Both these would be OK for gaming. For photo processing the 1907fp ultra sharp would be better at $599. All prices include delivery. For photo work you may want to knock back the colour settings a couple or three percentage points as the factory preset colour is a little bright. tutaenui (1724)

The more you go for higher frame rate for gaming the more you are going to move away from colour accuracy (depending on your budget). If your just into photo editing as a hobby then I wouldn't worry too much about the level of colour accuracy as a screen that is good for gaming is still ok for everything else unless you do photo work for a day job.

556942 2007-06-07 09:54:00 So whats a good brand to get??
Is veiwsonic, samsung, dell ok, what about the cheaper brands like AOC, Chimei??

556943 2007-06-07 10:03:00 Probably the Dell that was mentioned above. I am more of a photoshop person so colour accuracy is more important to me which means that I would probably go for a Sony or Apple monitor since I don't do any gaming. If your wanting a decent monitor I wouldn't go looking at the cheap end - more the mid range. winmacguy (3367)
556944 2007-06-07 10:28:00 Funnily enough, I just purchased an Acer Monitor from DSE. (XC6350)

So far it has been fine for me. A 5ms refresh and no dead pixels (touch wood)
Colours are OK, stretching can be a pain while playing some games as they may not have the resolution to support widescreen and will look stretched.

Also the monitor is bloody bright. Mines set to 15% brightness and contrast.

Power consumption is a bit of a worry, and installing the base to the monitor was annoying as the instructions were vague and I had to use a little force to pop it in, risking damage of the screen.

Overall, I'm OK with what I purchased. adequate for what I need.:2cents:

Oh, and getting the right viewing angle is a pain in the arse

3 yr Guarantee and perform very well They have had excellent reviews and some models have a zero pixel defect policy
