556688 2007-06-06 10:37:00 i hav dedicated a ISA server because i got sick of computers in my household getting viruses and worms and whatnot, All has been fine excpet for one nagging issue.....i cannot get MS Office outlook (2003 or 2007) to contact a web based email account i use. (gmail) i know gmail uses ssl incoming and outgoing on ports 995 and 465 respectively. i get a "cannot find server, even tho i have configured it correctly and downloaded the gmail pop troubleshooter, which reports no issues. I have googled it and nothing. I realise ISA server is so over the top for a home environment.....any help would be greatly appreciated. aidanmaz (7180)
556689 2007-06-06 10:42:00 Is that easier than using a Linux server? winmacguy (3367)
556690 2007-06-06 10:50:00 Well I have to ask... if you get so many worms and Viruses WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE NET!!!??? :groan: I have NEVER had a virus or worm on any of the PCs here in the years that I have been connected to the net  The_End_Of_Reality (334)

556692 2007-06-06 11:09:00 haha what do i do on the net.......other than reading tech stuff, usin MSN and AIM, and teenspot.com (a java based teen chatting room *yes im a teen*) Nothing illegal, i have no idea how i get viruses and worms.......im not a fan of porn (as everyone breathes a sigh of relief) ugh! i have used so many different AVs, paid and free, makes no diff. ISA saved me :-p....i wouldnt know if its easier than a Linux server, used is a pain to get configured, as it blocks so much when installed (took an effort to get DHCP and DNS working again)

What i am askin wasnt covered in my MCSA course, which had ISA part.

556693 2007-06-06 11:49:00 Well you (or someone else in the family) must do something to get so many viruses and worms... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
556694 2007-06-06 11:56:00 Agreed. winmacguy (3367)
556695 2007-06-06 21:41:00 ...*yes im a teen*) Nothing illegal...

OK so if you're a teen and do nothing illegal how did you get you hands on MS ISA Server 2004.... rich parents?

I'd have to agree with The_End_Of_Reality's 1st post... there is something seriously suspect. I have been on the net for years and haven't fallen pray to a virus or worm off the Internet... I've been fortunate enough to have AV software pick up any infections before things turn nasty but these have been mainly from infected CD's or other disk media.

Most AV nowadays (whether paid for or free) will pick up most virus elements, worms and Trojans.... if any of these got through then it would be because someone is allowing them through or they are all miraculously new virus elements, worms and Trojans!!!

I guess it sounds like I'm insinuating or hinting at pirate software etc which I probably am but from your post things just don't add up. You changed to a server setup to stop a virus problem? Not the most economical or smart way of doing things... not to mention that this is from someone who claims do have done MCSA....just doesn't add up?

Just me :2cents: worth

mmmmmm nope not illegal software. if it was pirated.....i dont think i would be posting here. I DID do my MCSA at Ames Training and Resource Centre in Auckland, and also did CompTIA A+ hardware/OS and Network +. *Shrugs* maybe i shud do M$ updates......they seem to slow my logons down tho.
