557281 2007-06-08 10:21:00 I think my lan speed is not as fast as it should be having read various items on the subject. As I am not too comp literate I would appreciate some assistance in finding out what speed I should be getting.

557282 2007-06-08 10:32:00 Welcome to PF1 :)

yes, if you are on broadband and are using ethernet to connect to the broadband modem then it will report as 100Mbps... but I think you are talking about slow internet speeds right? if so what ISP are you with and what plan? you could ring them and tell them about it and ask what to do...

Try rebooting the modem... by pulling the power plug out the back and what is the modem?

557283 2007-06-08 10:47:00 Modem: CNXT V9x PCI ModemAre you on a 56K dialup internet connection (non-broadband)? If so, then 56kbps is the expected speed.

As The_End_Of_Reality mentions, the speed (100.0 Mbps) displayed when you hover over the computer icons (LAN icon) in the system tray shows the ethernet speed of your local LAN (home computers networked together) and not the internet speed.

Is it the internet speed that concerns you or the speed when you transfer files between local networked computers in your household?

557286 2007-06-08 11:07:00 most likly its a ISP or telephone lines problem.

i doubt anyone here would know much about ISP's in spain, we are kinda on the wrong side of the world. maybe a more local forum can help.

557287 2007-06-08 11:34:00 I agree with tweake here, this is a New Zealand based site so we can’t give you that much help with this problem.

Sorry about that :)

557288 2007-06-08 11:36:00 OK, I think it might be an idea to ring your ISP as I suggested above and see what they say... what is the advertised speed of your plan? The_End_Of_Reality (334)
