| 557095 | 2007-06-08 03:31:00 | Ok so here goes . . . . . . My father who lives in CHCH is having problems with his email xxxxxxx . kol . co . nz . . . . . I live in Hamilton so found it quite frustrating to try to help him in anyway whatsoever . . . . The problem is he tries to send emails but it keeps saying emails to be sent 3 . . . 0 sent . He sent them yesterday . Background . . . . My father uses his outlook express which I am unfamiliar with as I go straight to my Hotmail or other depending on which email account Im signing into . I thought the easiest way to solve his problems would be too log in with his account xxxxxxx . kol . co . nz and see what happens . (bad idea) I went to the kol webmail page and logged into his account, it was empty and looked as if it was never used . I then sent myself (hotmail) an email from his kol email and received it without any problems . When my father goes to outlook express he has over 100 emails (he doesn't know how to delete them and after an hour of hell conversation on my cell I decided not to get into where the delete button is) So my question is (i know i sound really stupid) Is outlook express a whole different email? When people send my father an email xxxxxxx . kol . co . nz it goes to his outlook express fine but obviously doesn't go to his kol account . Why? I know outlook express wont send emails to Hotmail or any other free account but that is not really a problem . The reason why I ask this is because I think I have made matters worse by even telling or showing him his kol account because he didn't even know it was there . Confused?? so am I pleeeeeeeeeease help . Yours faithfully Ridiculously stupid . |

| 557096 | 2007-06-08 04:14:00 | "The problem is he tries to send emails but it keeps saying emails to be sent 3 ... 0 sent. He sent them yesterday." After you send the email it sits in the outbox either until OE sends the mail or you click send & receive and stay online long enough for the email to be sent. If you shut down the computer straight away the outbox won't empty. "So my question is (i know i sound really stupid) Is outlook express a whole different email? When people send my father an email xxxxxxx.kol.co.nz it goes to his outlook express fine but obviously doesn't go to his kol account. Why? " It does go to his KOL account but when he has his computer online OE downloads the email and no copy is left on the KOL server. This is normal. "When my father goes to outlook express he has over 100 emails (he doesn't know how to delete them and after an hour of hell conversation on my cell I decided not to get into where the delete button is)" Are these emails he's received or emails he thought he'd sent? Received ones don't matter but if they are in the outbox he might want to check that they're still worth sending :D |

You have no idea so are probably confusing things even more . |

| 557098 | 2007-06-08 09:40:00 | Oulook Express is and email client. It connects to an email server (in this case KOLs email server) and when it is started up, or send/receive is pressed, it goes off to the email server, see if there are any emails waiting for him to download, downloads them to the Inbox in Outloos Express. It then sees if there is anything in the outbox of Outlook Express, and sends that off to the email server, which then sends them off to wherever they are addressed to. Everything in the outlook express Inbox, Deleted Items, Sent Items blah blah blah are stored on the computer, not the internet. Hotmail is a web-based email client. Everthing is done online and 'live'. Your emails are all stored online, not on your computer. It sounds like your father may have attempted to send a massive email (this can happen, for example, by pressing the Scan to Email button on a scanner) and it is simply taking ages to send on (presumably with KOL) dial-up. Best thing for him to do is to open his Outbox, and check that everything in there is addressed properly, and that the size of the messages isn't huge (ie over 1Mb for Dial-up). If necessary, delete what is in the outbox and start again. |

| 557099 | 2007-06-10 21:17:00 | Thanks that helped heaps. Will be able to explain things a bit clearer to him now. His 100+ emails are incoming and they can stay there as i am not that patient a person (took me over an hour to explain to him why the : was above the ;) The emails he sent did eventually get thru, he att. quite a lot of photos so thats prob why they took so long. He also is not a very patient person so probably went off line the second he hit the send button. Another Q........ My sister sends out att. everyone I spoke to has said the same thing ..... When they open her att. they come out as multi mime format etc ... when I opened one of them it was like she took a screen shot of her email page and sent that to me, quite strange .... She is worse than my father so I give up trying to explain things to her but .... is there anything I can do on my end to get her emails coming to me correctly? |

But . . if you want to simply block her forever, put her in the black list on your Host Files area . . . wham! No more her! Well, not really . . . that won't eradicate her but the small yield nuclear device would . My sister, since sending her a nuc would not point to anyone but me, is entered on all the blockers I can find . |

| 557101 | 2007-06-10 23:32:00 | If he is sending photos then it will take a while, especially if these photos are in the exact same format as when they came off the camera as these will be at print quality normally which is absolutly huge when compared with a normal email, if these photos are only being sent to be viewed online and not printed out then you will probably have to spend another 4-5 hours online explaining to your father how to optimise photos for the web as this reduce the file size of the images by around 90% but they still look the same when viewed online, (but not so good if printed) |

| 557104 | 2007-06-12 02:49:00 | OMG that would mean I would have to explain how to use it . . . . . . . . . I think I need to take the computer off both my father and sister and lock them in a steal enforced room and send the key into space where it will hopefully get burnt up by the sun or sucked into a black hole . Shall I tell you the story of my mother and the cell phone I gave her . . . . . . Here it comes . . . . . She has just learned how to text but still wont use spaces . instead . she . uses . full . stops . . I . dont . know . wh y . because . I . have . shown . her . how . to . do . it . properly . n umerous . times . The other day she somehow got it stuck on searching and couldn't use it so my son had to remove the battery for her to get it back to normal . At least once a day she sends me blank texts and occasionally sends texts to landlines . When I mentioned to her on the weekend (because she was letting my nephew play with it) to be careful he didn't go on line cause it would cost an arm and a leg . . . . . . she freaked out at the thought of a phone going on the net and now thinks every time she pushes a button shes going on line . . . . . I then went home . . . I really think I have learned my lesson . I need to stop talking to my family members completely . |
