557441 2007-06-11 06:55:00 It's not really about waiting for something better, it's more like... imo, there is no point in DX10 yet, so you might as well buy a card for DX9. Any card from 7900GS up is going to do very well on DX9.

If you want a card for DX10, then wait, cause even the latest and greatest struggle with DX10.

I say buy a 7900GS now. Cheap. Good performance in DX9 games. And when DX10 gaming is more mature, sell it, and buy a new DX10 card.

557442 2007-06-11 07:04:00 thanks the responses im a bit against waiting it out for new products to come out as no doubt when they do there will be another even better release to wait for then too. how long am I looking at waiting for the next range of dx10 cards to come out? cos i really dont want to have to keep using my rubbish laptop any longer than needs be. so it would seem that nvidia still the way to go over ati?Well, you have a choice between ATI & Nvidia.

 I don't know about you. It seems X2900XT is a choice for me, I know the driver is very new, and heat is very serious in summer time.
8600GT seems like a good choice, but no benchmarking yet for X2600 Pro.
Have a look at reviews web, no much people can argue which will win over each other over X2900XT vs 8800 GTS 640MB, remember the driver is very fresh for X2900XT and it is being nearly 1/2 year already for 8800GTS driver.

Have another thought again. If you heard about R700 going for 55nm processing is a lie, dunno who make that happen but Intel and Nvidia are not very happy about it. 55nm processing on GPU is not gonna happen.

XBOX is using ATI GPU technology as well. Kinda weird but true.

557443 2007-06-11 07:07:00 Advise against getting any 8600's...

But then I checked the prices. Sorry, I thought the prices where a lot more than that. Not as bad as i originally thought. Ignore me :p

557446 2007-06-16 08:51:00 after a little bit of considering I think I will get a cheaper card and wait for the next range of cards to come out so im looking at cards less than $200. Im considering these three:

Sapphire RADEON HD2600 PRO
www.dragonpc.co.nz

or

XFX Geforce 8500GT
www.nzoczone.com

or

XFX Geforce 7600GS
www.nzoczone.com

which one would people recommend me getting? as all are round a similar price.
LOWTEC (7821)
557447 2007-06-16 09:03:00 Well the 7600GS is not DX10 (and is slower than the 8500GT) so I would go for either the 8500GT or 2600 PRO. Looking at specs on Wikipedia the 2600 PRO is theoretically better (faster core speed, faster RAM speed, but slower shader clock speed) I am going to look for some benchmakrs to compare them now... 557448 2007-06-16 10:03:00 thanks i should of prolly looked for sum benchmarks but i was being lazy as my net is so rubbish. maybe I should also consider the 8600gt? LOWTEC (7821)
557449 2007-06-16 10:17:00 Heh, well it seems to be quite hard to find up to date GFX card benchmarks...

Yes, it is all up to you and your budget... the XFX 8600GT XXX (www.nzoczone.com) from OC Zone has double the RAM speed, double the pixel pipelines and an extra 170MHz core speed, that will make a fair difference in performance but it will cost $274.95 Inc GST from OC Zone can you justify that?

557450 2007-06-16 10:27:00 David... 7900gs or 7600gt and wait for next gen cards :p
