I know what site (http://www.trolltech.com) to go to. I installed Ubuntu 6.0.6 LTS the other night (to see what it was like), on a spare hdd. And (I think) I managed to get the modem to work (which wasnt that easy)! Now, I'm trying to find a decent IRC client. But this one doesnt look that easy to configure / install! |

Kvirc requires dependencies that generally are present if you have the KDE desktop environment. You are missing them under Gnome, so this will involve installing all the required QT dependencies plus the actual program. The easiest thing to do would be to install one of the ready to go IRC clients that are available for Gnome. Pick one from the Ubuntu suggestions given here: Internet Relay Chat (IRC) (help.ubuntu.com) You just need to look in your package manager for that program and select it to be installed. Once installed, you will find in under the appropriate menu. Should be easy as. :) |

| 557330 | 2007-06-08 10:20:00 | Hmmm, its a bit too basic Xchat. I'm after something that can at least take your registration info before u log in. To save u identifying after. I might have to install KDE or whatever it is somehow, if it can be installed. Or just stick with Mirc in XP. And install a better version of FF on this Linux box since it doesnt save passwords. |

There's only one apt-get command you needa run to convert ubuntu into kubuntu which will make installing K-apps a lot easier 3. Gaim does IRC, and sounds like it does what you're after? Although its now called Pidgin, the latest Ubuntu still uses Gaim, and 6.06 is using a _really_ old version! |

| 557333 | 2007-06-10 21:05:00 | I did get the files for kubuntu-desktop the other night lol 164 mb. It installed Kaffeine,Konqueror etc. And using it now. It didnt help configuring Kvirc tho. It still said the same error it said before. About the X Windows missing or something. Or should I be apt-getting something else to install some other files after. If so, what? I've managed to get the modem to work (well, it dials and connects, it doesnt go anywhere for some reason). Must be a setting somewhere. But I can still get on the net thru the other pc. |

| 557334 | 2007-06-11 06:01:00 | Well, I got most of this thing working, managed to get the printer, and scanner working! It took long enough! The brother site didnt help, I had to look for more info on the net. The only prob now is the modem and whatever settings. K/Ubuntu seems to be picking up the modem, it dials and connects, u just cant go anywhere after that! Obviously, I've put in the right username/pw etc.. And the DNS servers. What else am I missing since I cant go anywhere! I still havent got Kvirc to configure, since I dont know what file to get from the previous site I posted. Oh one more thing, I created a folder I used for drivers, now I cant delete it. How are you meant to delete it when it says youre not the owner, even tho I created it? There are no other users on it beside me so whats the prob. |
