I wonder if those CDMA/GSM fones that Telecom are currently selling can be unlocked for NZ GSM and will we now see carriers locking the fones so you can't switch?? Also those who have over the past year or two bought expensive CDMA fones get a good discount on a comparible replacement??
I suspect that the switch to GSM will take at least 5 years to complete if the example of the analog AMPS to CDMA is anything to go by.. |

I think it might take far less than 5 years because Telecom is making this move to go head to head with Vodafone on one technology as CDMA becomes obsolete. The last thing they'd want is a 5 year time frame to do that. But maybe with unbundling and everything, it might take that long but it wouldn't be in their best interests. |
