558496 2007-06-12 11:13:00 Whenever I go to log on my PC it shows that I have multiple unread emails, when it fact I have none!
I have checked through all folders ie Inbox, Sent & Deleted and there are none unread yet the login page currently tells me I have 11 unread....where are they??????????

558497 2007-06-12 11:40:00 What OS are you using? bob_doe_nz (92)
558498 2007-06-12 15:22:00 Yup, has to be XP. Mine does that all the time. It tells me the no. of messages in both my Gmail and my Hotmail. No idea how or why. Btw, this is coming back from standby and maybe Hibernate as well. My Outlook shows my Gmail and I think the system might caching what MSN Messenger shows even if your signed off. beeswax34 (63)
558499 2007-06-12 15:58:00 I get this same scene..I have MSN as a default from my ISP..it was that or Yahoo!, and since my MSN mailbox is considered primary by my ISP, the announcement on my sign-in screen reflects that e-mails are in my MSN side..which I hardly ever use.

But the announcement is there until I actually read the mail even though I use GMail as MY primary and Godaddy.

558500 2007-06-12 19:12:00 The unread message count is stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail and each account ever checked from this computer in the count is listed as subkeys under this key. Their unread count is only included in the total shown on the logon screen if they were checked within the last 3 days.

You can disable this feature by editing a value called MessageExpiryDays, setting it to 0.

That's interesting . . . . ! really!

When I sign on first time of the day, my MSN message count is in the sign-on screen . . . and once I get signed on then I get whatever number of e-mails I have in GMail flashed in teaser/toast form . . and I can have over 50 or 100 at a time .

The GMail count is NEVER shown in my XP log-on at all .

Now you got me wondering why not . . . my primary Verizon e-mail acct is thru MSN, and for some reason I only see the count from the last MSN account I viewed before the last shut down or "Switch Member" click .

Admittedly, I have three accounts in MSN, one in Verizon (which is required as they send mail to me all the time telling me that my rates are going up someday) and about 10 in GMail (I store a lot of files there . . don't ask if you're in NZ) .

You can install tweakui to disable this feature also.
Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count

558503 2007-06-13 01:13:00 Many thanks for all that input...it is great to get help when one needs it .
Bob Doe....I am using XP Pro...I should have quoted that. Iwill try those remedies tonight...never thought of MSN, that could be the culprit.
Although it does not effect the operation of the PC I am one of those people who don't like to see incorrect or misleading data coming up like that!
