557933 2007-06-10 09:50:00 I have an acer latop 1gig ram AMD Truion 64 (Mobile technology)1.6ghz, 100gig hard drive.

I recently noticed in my bios I have to option to change my video memory from 64mb to 128mb.

Would It be a wise idea to change to 128mb? As I do play games sometimes like unreal tournament, would it improve performance for games like that?

Thoughts appreciated

557935 2007-06-10 10:25:00 The more video RAM you set the less system RAM you will have... It will really be up to you and how you use the laptop to whether it is worth it The_End_Of_Reality (334)
557936 2007-06-10 10:49:00 1 G of RAM is plenty to play with so go ahead and change it to 128.

~ Assuming it is WinXP and not Vista ~

557937 2007-06-10 10:55:00 Yea I tried it and not any difference really. runs the games fine its just the fan is quite loud when cpu is 100%, I was hoping to lower the cpu by using more video ram but it didn't work. [Edit]Yea XP of course Nic54 (12395)
557938 2007-06-10 16:31:00 I'm with Morpheus, You should see more performance in games from 896mb ram / 128mb onboard graphics than you will from 960mb of ram / 64mb graphics Faded_Mantis (79)
557939 2007-06-10 19:57:00 the fan is quite loud when cpu is 100%,

Laptops are more difficult to clean compared to desktops but see what you can do to make sure all air intakes and fan blades are clear of dust. Maybe someone who is familiar with cleaning laptops can give you advice. I had a similar problem with my desktop and cleaning the cpu fan was only a partially solution; it was the power supply cleaning that made the big difference.

557940 2007-06-11 02:48:00 Well my fans been loud since I bought it so I'm kinda used to it, It keeps my laptop cool thats the main thing, its probably just a cheap fan. Could I get the manufacture to replace it with a better/quieter fan? Nic54 (12395)
557941 2007-06-11 22:04:00 You can try to get it replaced, but it will most likely be replaced with another tiny, high-speed fan that makes lots of noise :)

Usually the smaller fans, as found in laptops, need to spin faster to get enough air through to cool properly. Most laptops are just not designed for running at high CPU/GPU for any extended periods and will usually overheat.
