2007-06-13 02:58:00 | I second that - FastStone Image Viewer is awesome. The description on that web page is impressive (below). One question: When you do things like [red-eye removal, resizing, cropping and color adjustments] - can you Save the alterations so that the original photo is changed? I ask this because a year or two ago when I tried Picasa it would only save a copy of the photo which meant I had to go back and delete the original, etc. - it was a pain so I nixed Picasa. FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user-friendly image browser, converter and editor. It has a nice array of features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing, cropping and color adjustments. Its innovative but intuitive full-screen mode provides quick access to EXIF information, thumbnail browser and major functionalities via hidden toolbars that pop up when your mouse touches the four edges of the screen. Other features include a high quality magnifier and a musical slideshow with 150+ transitional effects, as well as lossless JPEG transitions, drop shadow effects, image annotation, scanner support, histogram and much more. It supports all major graphic formats (BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA) and popular digital camera RAW formats (CRW, CR2, NEF, PEF, RAF, MRW, ORF, SRF and DNG).

2007-06-13 03:03:00 | But does Fastone have a gamma adjustment like Irfanview? I find that absolutely invaluable for correcting under or over exposed images but I don't see it in the Fastone features list (or am I going blind?). Cheers Billy 8-{)

2007-06-13 04:18:00 | Did you try Maxview (www.faststone.org) from the faststone site? I never got the hang of it, but in many ways it's closer to an enhanced pic/fax viwer than the picasa type proggies. Hi mmmork This image viewer( Maxview)is definite one of the better options so far. It is definitly fast! I will try a bit more over the next day or two. Thanks NT

2007-06-13 04:24:00 | It has basic stuff like gamma correct, although really it's just a pic viewer IMO, not a full featured image manipulator. There's better programs for that sort of thing, irfanview among them, it wasn't what the original poster was after. Doesn't save changes automatically - you're prompted if you want to save changes, then if you want to replace original.

You can rotate by any degree, gamma correct, and do most things that regular photo programs can do. And like the name says, its fast. |
