558398 2007-06-12 08:02:00 You are on very very shaky ground here...
I'm sorry, but no one here will be able to tell you how to do this, or what programs to use, as that would be violating forum rules.
Not to mention that what you want to do is illegal. (no matter how much we may wish it weren't)

I have about 3 DVDs on my iPod that were purchased legally and can now be viewed on my iPod care of HandBrake. It would only be illegal if they had been pirated or stolen Sherman.

AFAIK the NZ Govt is ammending the copyright law to allow 1 copy of music to be format shifted but is not planning to change anything yet regarding Video.

Despite belief to the contrary, it is currently still illegal to copy copyright DVDs in New Zealand, whether you purchased the DVD or not. Backing up your DVDs for "safe keeping" is done at your own legal risk.

Laws are under review I believe right now.

Not to mention that what you want to do is illegal. What crud. At worst he's trying to circumvent copyright. Backups are entirely legal.

The best advice to give him is that using an iPod for backing up DVD content is probably a silly way of going about things.

558405 2007-06-12 09:49:00 Next you'll be saying I can't tape off the radio or TV!

Well, you can, but only for the purpose of "time shifting" - making a recording to be viewed or listened to at a more convenient time. You're not supposed to keep the copy for any longer than necessary. Sorry, but that collection of Dr Who videos you recorded back in the 1980s should really be wiped clean./QUOTE][QUOTE=Jen;559893]Care to find the current NZ law that allows that for copyright video DVDs?

Not bang on, but close. Time shift from dvd player to ipod. To view in more appropriate time. Once watched on ipod delete it.
