1416013 2016-02-12 21:31:00 I have a NUC in the bedroom I use occasionally for watching Videos/Netflix/youtube etc. It does the job and I'm generally pretty happy with it.
Every now and then though it seems to randomly turn itself on, I don't put it to sleep I always shut it down.

What happens is. I'll be in bed and suddenly notice the power light come on, it's white and fairly bright. So I reach over and push the button and it goes off again. Some time later it'll happen again, so I turn the monitor on to see what's happening and it's in the UEFI shell command prompt. Took me a while to figure out that typing exit gets it to boot normally from there. This has happened a couple of times, and both times the boot order has mysteriously reset to have the built in UEFI Shell and then a couple of LAN devices as the first options and the HDD as the last. Changing the boot order then fixes it and everything goes back to normal.

The other minor issue is when the splash screen appears that gives you options like F2 for BIOS, F10 for boot menu etc I can't get into the BIOS, but I think that's the wireless keyboard defaulting to the blue keyboard functions instead of F keys and suspect if I was quick enough to find the Fn - F2 combo in the dark I could make that work. As it is I use advanced startup to get to the BIOS.

What has me mystified is how it turns itself on and how the boot order gets reset. The time and date don't change but could it be a dud CMOS battery anyway and would that matter with it plugged in all the time? It can be turned on with a windows remote thanks to an onboard IR receiver and that's pretty cool but I don't have a remote for it in the room so I'm not bumping that.

Because this has only happened twice a couple of months apart I'll probably never figure it out but I'm open to suggestions

1416014 2016-02-13 00:22:00 The suddenly starting when off, sounds a bit like WOL ( Wake on Lan) is on and something is sending a wake up packet over your network. This can be checked / Disabled in the BIOS. wainuitech (129)
