1415815 2016-02-09 22:50:00 Hi all

Got a used lappie for my casual stuff.

1. What is the difference between a family account and "other" account?

How do you guys suggest me set it up?

2. When it prompts you for an online account, must it be Outlook.com?

3. While there are pros of an online account, are their any cons?

Thanks.

1415816 2016-02-09 23:14:00 Q1. Have a read windows.microsoft.com kind of explains it.

Second part -- Why even use a email account ? you dont have to. None of the W10's here have email accounts, they all use local accounts.

When you get to the Get Going Fast page, bottom select Customize,

it then allows you to skip the email account ( skip this step) and make a local one , you can add a password if you want or just leave them blank for no password, as well as turn off all the spying options.

The Cons of no email account --- Well nothing really apart from when you want something that does need a MS account, you have to enter in your email and details. BUT the latest builds ( public) allow you to sign into ONLY that one program/App if you wish and not the others. I have mine set so it auto signs into the Store, but nothing else, still running a local account.

If you do want a email account, it doesn't have to be outlook.com. You can use what ever email address you want, when setting it up you have the option to use another email, that then registers at MS as your email account.

With the family account - "adults". So I don't need parental control etc. What is the difference between "other" account and a family account?

Family -- You can add kids and others and have control over what they can do, see, and times they can access the computer etc. This could be why they have Adult or Child. If you have a family account the options will be applied to all accounts, you can change the Adult or child s accounts to suit.

Other - Basically an open account that has the same rights as a normal user account. Although all accounts can have restrictions applied.

Like this :D

Son -- hes complete and fine.

1415819 2016-02-10 05:04:00 Thanks WT. gotcha. Might just try it out it's part of the fun ...

I was thinking if the family member isn't flag as a child, maybe they don't let them see what they viewed? Not very nice for family adults to see what other adults are seeing and doing .... :D
