1415556 2016-02-05 05:50:00 Hi, I googled this and it said it does VM stuff. I have Win7 Pro x64 and want to occasionally run x32 of any version of Windows so I can use my printer. Canon decided not to release x64 drivers, nor has Microsoft. The printer works fine if Windows 7 or Windows 10 but it needs to be x32. The laptop that is currently x32 is on its last legs it was released on the market 9yrs ago and it is not ideal to install x32 Windows on a newer laptop.

Does this program emulate x32 within a host x64? Other suggestions?

Thanks.

1415557 2016-02-05 06:30:00 Generally you shouldn't have a problem running a 32 bit OS in the VM.

I know with W7 Pro you can actually run Windows XP Mode. No license required. Theres two parts, the VM and XPMode. XPMode (www.microsoft.com) & Virtual PC (support.microsoft.com)

Personally for VM's I run either vmware_player/6_0 (my.vmware.com desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/6_0) or the inbuilt Hyper-V.

1415558 2016-02-05 07:27:00 What is the printer? your best bet would be trying to install drivers of a newer model by downloading them from canon, installing it to use the lpt port.

Plug in the printer, say you have the drivers, locate them and install them.

Then test it out.

Cheers,

1415559 2016-02-05 08:08:00 It is only a USB port printer. Canon MF5630. Canon's site doesn't provide a x64 driver. With a x64 OS, it detects something but it is not able to install it. Nomad (952)
1415560 2016-02-05 09:19:00 I don't think that will work as the x64 host OS would need a working driver
to be able to show the printer to the x86 client OS

1415561 2016-02-05 09:23:00 Or use the laptop to print until either the laptop dies or the printer runs out of toner, then buy a new printer. Some of them are cheaper than replacement ink/toner anyway. dugimodo (138)

Dual boot but that is quitting a session and restarting the machine. Rather not.

FYI Windows VMs are actually separate machines, no dependency on host drivers

Duly noted, thanks.
