1409829 2015-10-13 20:04:00 On Friday, the day of the Magpies vs Waikato rugby union match, SBS Bank had delivered, not one, but two brochures seperately to our post box. SBS Bank are a sponsor of this event. SBS are associated with HBS Bank.

Within the brochure, which was a 24 page thing of mixed advertisements and the Ranfurly Shield contest information, there was a free-to-enter competition, 1st prize was $10,000.00 The full page advert stated:

SUPPORT A WINNING TEAM AND WIN $10k [HBS BANK MAGPIES]

Well, of course I went to the quoted website, and there was nothing to be found as to how to enter the competition. So of course me, being a loyal supporter of our team, phoned the bank to ask about this.

All credit to a certain Isabel from their call centre who although couldn't solve this puzzle, put me through to the local branch of SBS / HBS Bank. I spoke with the branch manager, a certain Helen, who although was aware of this promotion, wasn't exactly in the loop. She in turn passed my contact info onto the bank's Marketing Manager.

Then Grant Brodey (a true a******* identified by how much he tried to cover his backside by making such a ten thousand dollar screw-up).

Well, he tried to worm his way around the essential issue that the promotion and competition was run a week earlier, which it may or may not have been the case.

The facts which he tried so adroitly to avoid were:

The advert in the publication was placed in the publication dated Friday 9 October.
The advert was a full colour advert. (It ain't cheap).
The advert stated ENTER TODAY.
I responded on the same day, ie Friday 9 October.

Sadly, in his defence I became irate and suggested a couple of things he should do with himself before I hung up the phone call in utter frustration.

However, it just goes to show what scheming bar stewards run the marketing of a popular Savings Union turned "banK".

1409830 2015-10-14 03:49:00 Been told the Southland Building Society, SBS were a very well run bank.

Thanks for that remark and it may well tun me off them.

The other good prospect is the TSB Taranaki Savings Bank, perhaps there may be some concern here as well do you think!.
