1409407 2015-10-04 06:37:00 Mind blowingly awesome! Somehow very appropriate, after having just recently visited Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center! ( Also because son in law has worked for NASA, and occasionally does work for them at JPL) sorry just couldn't help mentioning that!

LL :o

1409409 2015-10-04 07:13:00 Super - thanks for the review. I was thinking about going - a definite now. Jen (38)
1409410 2015-10-04 18:23:00 It was Andy Weirs first book.
I have the book - and it is good - very technical, he spends a lot of time describing the various fixes and gardening and things he does....in technical detail.

I wondered about the movie, so often they change them so much.

I wondered if they'd change the tech stuff, add more explosions (there are one or two in the book), and kill it to satisfy the dumb.
Hope not......

1409413 2015-10-04 21:13:00 Interestingly, apart from everything else trying to kill you on Mars, cold, heat, radiation, lack of atmosphere...
It turns out that the Martian dirt is Extremely toxic to humans . So getting dirt on you spacesuit & bringing that dirt 'inside' would be very bad
I doubt we'll being going there anytime soon (if at all)

I'll wait for the DVD :-)

1409414 2015-10-04 21:47:00 Well I enjoyed it, good movie. If you are an action junkie it might be a bit slow at times but other than that pretty good.
I was amused at the American need to sanitise the language though, you can tell he's prone to some very colourful language but for the most part only get to see people's reaction to it and not what he actually said. Apparently the science is mostly pretty sound.

I'm actually not very critical of movies and never treat movies and books as if they are telling the same story. Two totally different things. I pretty much ignore critics but I do like to hear reviews from regular people so thanks for that.

1409415 2015-10-05 01:54:00 Sounds like you are after a Peter Jackson trilogy

Why do I? I liked the tech stuff in the book.
Book, not booksssssss............

Can't stand Fantasy, especially the sort that spans multi-books.

1409416 2015-10-05 02:41:00 Just to be picky, Sci-Fi is a sub category of fantasy so you do like it :p

Personally I like both but prefer Sci-Fi
