| 1410033 | 2015-10-22 07:19:00 | I agree. I don't know the facts, but I know about how forests in South East Asia have been decimated, and both Iceland and Britain were once covered in trees, and now, esp Iceland are seriously barren. You don't have to look so far, NZ was once almost completely forest with great Kauri trees thousands of years old all over the nothern parts. Now it's mostly open farmland. And we consider ourselves one of the greener countries. |

Not there now. All cleared for farming over the last 150 years. Ken |

I blame it all on the Alfred the Great, and then the British navy in later years, they cut down millions of oaks to build wooden sailing ships. The Sussex chalk downs were once covered in oaks. :banana ....and then there is Antarctica..........."It may be hard to believe, but Antarctica was once covered in towering forests." www.bbc.com |

| 1410038 | 2015-10-22 18:58:00 | Don't tell BM, apparently the climate has never changed. I know comprehension isn’t one of your strengths Gary, but if you read my posts carefully you will see that I believe the climate has been constantly changing, but the minuscule changes in Co2 levels are of no consequence. I hope that clarifies the matter. |

| 1410039 | 2015-10-22 20:17:00 | Well seeing none of the Tree Huggers are able to come up with a figure for the amount of forests left, I took this from one of their own sites. I suspect that in accordance with normal protocol the figures have been dutifully skewed to make it look as bad as possible, but regardless, there is still at least 4 Billion Hectares to clear, so wed better get on with it. :D 6782 |

| 1410041 | 2015-10-22 20:42:00 | It's not 90%, but it is pretty high. . so many researchers just make up stats , why cant I :-) .The made up stats make for a great newsbite & they are allmost never questioned Best example of that was NZ researcher who gave a no of annual deaths caused by air pollution in NZ. Councils loved his research. His made up no was X , actual number was 0 . He was paid to do this research & then he just made up stats . Vested interests , thats why we will never know the truth about warming. But anyway, deforestatrion is quite high, for NZ... "by the time the first Europeans arrived, up to 50% of the original forest cover had gone." Look at these pics & tell me you dont think its around 90 % in the NI . www.teara.govt.nz Aus is quite high as well, or is it. "As much as 70% of Australia's native vegetation has been cleared or modified in the past 200 years" "Weve lost about 40 % of our total forest cover over the last 200 years" more made up stats ? |
