| 1409304 | 2015-10-03 02:52:00 | Laws only make a difference to law abiding people. They do not make a blind bit of difference to either criminals or to the mentally deranged in the population of any country. More restrictions on gun control in the USA would help save about the same percentage of lives as antismacking laws here have stopped little children being killed by those who are expected to care for them. | CliveM (6007) | ||

| 1409308 | 2015-10-03 07:48:00 | But even law abiding citizens - or their family members (kids) could resort to firing a firearm, perhaps justifiably so. But doing so could send mixed signals to others. Apparently purchasing has increased since around 2012 from the Connecticut Newtown massacre. Also gun patents has increased (www.bloomberg.com) (Bloomberg article) significantly (nearly 400 in 2012) for better aiming guns, resulting, along with, bold advertising for discounts - family store Walmart (www.walmart.com) ("shooting" category) and Hyatt Guns (www.hyattgunstore.com) in NC - USA's largest gun retailers. This has resulted in an annual rush at thanksgiving (www.huffingtonpost.com) (Huff Post). The FBI do about 17 to 20 millions checks per year since 2012, and increasing with 10, 000 automated checks per hour (www.fbi.gov) (FBI site) or 80, 000 requests processed per day. It all ramps up with these mass shootings, and sadly continue to do so. I recall this scene (www.youtube.com) vividly (1st execution scene) at the movies around '74/75 from Clint Eastwood's Magnum Force. Movie companies and their actors too I think have been an influence, either for gun sales, or copy cat shooting crimes portrayed. Eastwood's Dirty Harry 1971 movie increased large revolver gun sales in the US. |

You are absolutely right Clive. There are any amount of Laws that this Nutter could have been charged under, (including murder) none of which stopped him. And various Countries have interesting Laws about Suicide, none of which work. :D |

You're bordering on mentally deranged with logic like that. Laws such as gun control laws aim to restrict the supply side - they place the onus on those who aren't filled with a burning desire to shoot others with guns. It's simply not a coincidence the USA has a ridiculously high gun crime rate, and also an incredibly lax gun culture. If we follow your logic, why do we even bother making laws? People are just going to break them anyway. |
