1409076 2015-10-01 04:23:00 Well, I took it back to Mitre 10 and the young lady on the Returns Counter remembered me from my previous visit when the replacement was provided. She called up a technical person to validate my complaint and he understood the issue and suggested a replacement. I declined that offer on the basis that two in a row from their stock was a fairly good indication that there was a batch fault, so I opted for a refund rather than replacement. The young lady did not have authority to issue refunds, so another senior person was called out and she promptly offered me a store credit rather than a refund! That p'd me off considerably because she should have known better, and I told her so in as many words.

I got the refund, and I am now on a search for a decent Dremel on Trade Me because I can't justify the expense of a higher specced unit. During this saga I discovered that all Dremels come with just one (aluminium) collet size, which is very restrictive, whereas JayCar units come with two and sometimes three precision-made brass collets, all with the ability to take a range of drill/tool-shank diameters, so in the meantime, my JayCar cheapies rock!

Cheers

1409077 2015-10-01 22:00:00 I think the time has come to give Dremel the bums rush, I used to say you never regretted buying quality, till now!!

We all agree; Drermel was always associated with quality.

1409078 2015-10-01 22:22:00 Buying a Dremel is a bit like buying a car.

You can pay peanuts and get a bomb, or you can spend some extra dollars can buy a Dremel with a ball-bearing universal moto and a key-less chuck and be a happy chappy.

I am in the second category :)
