1415896 2016-02-11 01:45:00 Yup I dont think ASUS have a BIOS update to fix it yet. But, Gigabyte and Asrock have updated theirs to fix this bug. For affected CPU's Speedy Gonzales (78)
1415897 2016-02-11 04:01:00 Finished reinstalling and went without a hitch.
Reconnected the 3TB drive, formatted and thats show up all good.

One thing I have noticed is that after reconnecting 3TB drive, the boot hangs just after BIOS flash screen with cursor blinking in top left corner for 8~10 secs.
Checked that the M.2 SSD is set as first in boot priority is BIOS settings, so not sure why it is doing it.

1415898 2016-02-11 04:10:00 See if there's a firmware update for the 3 TB.

Get this run it, and check for updates (support.seagate.com)

If the 3 TB is a Seagate, these can have bugs in their firmware

If there is an update get the ISO and burn it. Then boot from it. And then make sure the 3 TB is the only hdd connected, so hopefully it can update its firmware

1415899 2016-02-11 04:16:00 Cheers Speedy.
It was one I had left over after upgrading the NAS box 6 months ago.
I believe it might be a Western Digital, so i'll check there website for newer firmware after I get a chance to confirm model number.

1415900 2016-02-11 04:16:00 oh ok sweet. Does it appear in the BIOS / get recognised in the BIOS tho? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1415901 2016-02-11 04:31:00 It's a WD Caviar Green 3TB 30EZRX.
Doesn't appear to be a firmware release on their website, so all good.

I also noticed that although the M.2 SSD is set as first boot priority, in disk mangement it is listed as "Disk 1", with the
3TB drive listed above it as "Disk 0". This wouldn't affect the BIOS boot times though would it?

(Yes, BIOS sees the 3TB)

1415902 2016-02-11 05:24:00 The location order in the Motherboard shouldn't really matter.

The speed / Hanging problem - could be the type of drive. You have to remember you have a SSD which is fast, trying to load quickly, and the WD 3TB is slower, so the boot /startup times are playing catch up.

You can try changing the SATA positions but don't really think it will make any difference.

To quote Western Digital:
Ultimately, WD Green HDDs are only useful for mass archival storage at a budget. These are the drives you buy for storing mass media (movies, music, photos) that doesn't require high-speed access and doesn't get accessed constantly. Which in your case it is (on startup)

If your main Drive was a normal HD, like WD blue or black then the speed difference wouldn't be noticed as much.

1415903 2016-02-11 07:09:00 Ah.. thanks for explaining that Wainui.
Thank makes sense, as its only spins at 5400rpm, and was originally used in a NAS.
It'll have to do untill he buys a newer one himself.
It's for his birthday, so he should be happy with what I've built.
Thanks again everyone.
