558968 2007-06-14 02:37:00 Hi,
This only happens occasionally, about 1 in 12 times of using it. The screen goes black and the computer restarts. I always wait about 5 minutes after booting before using it, to let the computer settle down.
Questions:-
Why does this happen? How can I stop it? And why does it only crash occasionally? I would have thought that after booting the computer the system would be in the same state every time, but this apparently isn't so.
I have Windows XP, and I have checked the device manager in computer properties and it says "no conflicts" for the TV card.
Thanks.

558969 2007-06-14 02:55:00 Whats the TV card's brand/model .

Does it bring up a BSOD when it crashes with the name of a driver . Check in Control Panel / admin tools / event viewer .

Under Application or System . Look for a bugcheck entry . . .

Post it here or see if it gives u a name of a driver .

558971 2007-06-14 10:07:00 I had a Flytv card a while ago. Never got it work 100%, so took it back to the shop & got a refund. Other brands have all worked with no problems but with varying quality picture Phil B (648)
558972 2007-06-28 02:09:00 Hi Speedy Gonzales if you are still there.

I am sorry about the delay in getting back to you. But I am not connected to the internet at home.

Every time the computer starts in 'event viewer' 'system' there is an error with 'source' 'service control manager' the description says 'the omscan service failed to start due to the following error; The system can't find the file specified' This error does not seem to affect the running of the computer.

On those occasions about 1 in 12, when the computer crashes when using the tv card, there is a message on the screen on rebooting saying 'the system has recovered from a serious error' it has an error signature
bccode: 10000050
bcp1: ff2c87c4
bcp2: 00000000
bcp3: f9a51f04
bcp4: 00000000
These codes change each crash.
and in event viewer, system, there is an error labelled system error category (102), event ID 1003 and it has the same description as above.

558973 2007-06-28 02:18:00 That Omscan service, whatever it is doesnt look good.

Post a hijackthis log, I'll check it out.

Put it in its own folder before u run it then click on scan and save a log.

Copy and paste the log here.

558974 2007-06-28 02:47:00 Hi Speedy Gonzales,
I think I will back out of this thread, and put up with the crashes, as it is getting a bit complex for me, and I am not connected to the internet on the computer that is giving the problem which also makes communicating difficult.
Thanks.

558976 2007-06-28 02:52:00 Is Omnipage Pro installed?

Try this from here (groups.google.com)

Open regedit and goto the following key:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

Scroll down to OMSCAN and delete that key.

Then reboot
