558670 2007-06-13 03:20:00 Is there a plugin for windows media player to play youtube video files? I have downloaded a few vids using www.downloadyoutube.biz (www.downloadyoutube.biz) and other ones like vixy.net (http:) which converts it to wmp format, but the vixy.net conversion is very bad quality. the video is grainy. when i use www.downloadyoutube.biz and other ones that don't convert, they are great quality and they play fine in the free flv player, but not in windows media player. lance4k (4644)

558673 2007-06-13 08:01:00 You don't NEED a stand-alone FLV player. I've recommended it a few times so for consistencies sake, download and install ffdshow (www.free-codecs.com)* and WMP should render FLV files fine. If not, try changing the file extension to AVI. I'm not sure if this works as I don't have WMP installed on my Vista system.

VLC media player ( but you can't seek. GOM Player (http://www.gomplayer.com/main.html" target="_blank">www.videolan.org/) also plays FLV files "out of the box" but you can't seek. GOM Player (http:) is similar in this instance but I haven't it before.

*as long as you haven't previously installed another codec pack like the K-Lite one recommended above, which I recommend against.

Cheers :)
