2007-06-15 07:30:00 | Ihug? Their service has got worse and worse. Their reliability has got worse and worse. Their helpdesk is sh**. I am about to move house, and when I do, I'm switching providers. They are constantly having problems, and it is happening more and more. Voted NZ's No.1 ISP? How the h*** did that happen? That was for 2006. Slingshot has won 2007 ISP of the year, in the Netguide Mag.

2007-06-15 07:36:00 | That’s what people are saying about slingshot as well…. Slingshot managed to win ISP of the year 2007 because they emailed their customer base, and asked them to vote for them as ISP of the year on the Netguide website. That shows how good Netguides voting system is, so really being called ISP of the year doesn't actually mean that they are the best ISP, just that more people voted for them. To slingshots credit, they did listen to customer compliants about their new downgraded plans, and have improved them a bit, but they are definately not the best ISP. I find Xtra to be far better, I can get through to them on the phone straightaway in the evening when I need to contact them, and they also reply to emails the same or next day. This is unlike slingshot, where I often have to wait over 30 minutes on the phone during the evening, and my last email to them took over a week to be answered!

2007-06-15 07:38:00 | Well yeah, I think they're out of luck for 2008. At the ratge they're going, Ihug wll probably be out of business soon, As for who I switch to, I have no idea. I guess I better start doing some research.

2007-06-15 23:28:00 | Mcam I think you might moan what ever ISP you were with. The ISP's are fantastic these days compared to when I first began with ICONZ in 1993. About 4-5 young blokes worked out of a small office with two rooms, one very hot modem room with a heap of modems and a room with about half a dozen computers. They had an old couch full of holes that they used to sleep on when they got tired. Life then was with a 2400 modem and Windows 3.1 and search engines like Archie and Veronica were about all there was. I was on the Win95 beta team when made connecting to the Internet a whole new experience. I switched to Ihug due to their cheaper price in 1995 and been there ever since. Have gone from 2400 modem to 14000 to 28k 56k satellite and several dsl variations. In all that time apart from account changes I probably have only needed their help line maybe 4-5 times. I spent a day at Ihug when they were first in Newton on their help line and the amount of idiot calls that came in was mind blowing. I think there is a huge market for Training providers to teach people the basics of computers and save the ISP help line people a lot of grief. Go Ihug IMHO.

2007-06-15 23:31:00 | Well it looks like its fixed now. At least Poptray doesnt say there's an error. When I checked email (this morning). It was worst last night on dialup, it also had authentication probs. It took me 6 tries to get back on.

2007-06-15 23:44:00 | I really think the big problem with all the ISPs I have dealt with is their failure to keep users informed.I can not see why they could not automatically email every customer and say "we have a problem Do not adjust your set"instead of me going to their site after I have stripped down and reassembled my box cause I thought the problem was unique to me.I also think they should have someone keeping up with PF1 forum postings and get in early to explain problems before everyone brings their past gripes out of the closet. | kjaada (253) | |
2007-06-15 23:52:00 | What a good idea - email every customer to tell them that they won't get the email because there is a problem. What do you think the network status is on their websie for.
