560264 2007-06-17 22:41:00 I recently bought and installed a new PCI wireless card from Dick Smiths. Seemed to be running fine for a few days, then Windows would suddenly reboot out of the blue.

Now, however, Windows won't boot correctly. It'll keep restarting. It will boot into Safe Mode however.

I have tried to uninstall the drivers for the Wireless Card. One went, the won't as it says it might be needed for Windows to boot. Is there any way that I can correctly diagnose the problem here?

560265 2007-06-17 23:16:00 If youre using XP right mouse on my computer on the desktop / properties / advanced / settings .

Clear the Automatically restart box, then OK . Then see if it brings up a BSOD / blue screen . With the name of a driver .

Or check Control panel / admin tools / event viewer . Under application or system, look for a bugcheck entry . Tell us what it says or click on the link it gives u (if it does), and see what it says .

560266 2007-06-17 23:26:00 I looked at the Event Viewer as you suggested (shoulda thought of that!) and there are a series of entries relating to a bunch of network services (IPSEC, TCP/IP, NetBIOS, DNS, DHCP) that were unable to start. Click on ALL the +'s.

560268 2007-06-17 23:36:00 Yes actually, the ethernet controller.

You reckon I should try and disable it?

I haven't installed the driver for this, as I haven't been using it since I moved house (relying on wireless instead).

You can if u want, disable Onboard LAN, in the BIOS not Windows.

Then it definitely wont come back. Only thing is u wont be able to network with other PC's (unless they've got wireless), until u enable it again / and install the drivers.

Thats most probably where that device attached to the system isnt functioning error came from.

I dont think, this would cause the crashing tho.

560270 2007-06-17 23:50:00 Well I disabled the device in System Manager, and rebooted, just to see, and sure enough, Windows booted .

I might try and reinstall the wireless card, and see if that has any affect on the stability of the system .

Thanks for your help
