560096 2007-06-17 09:51:00 Could do with a spot of help here. I have an origional Ghost disk with a serial number. This has been installed on this computer and worked fine till the backup HDD failed. I have had it for around 18-20 months, Ghost that is!

I replaced the HDD and for good measure uninstalled the program from C:, once the backup drive was in the computer I reloaded Ghost.

While both HDD's are found in BIOS and again in "my computer", nevertheless, when I try to setup another backup, Ghost does not "see' either of the drives.

OK, I loaded Ghost on another computer and of course it worked fine.

This computer runs Windows 2000 Pro, has 1 Gig ram, has an Athlon 2500 + CPU, C: is a 250gig ATA drive, whereas the backup drive is an 82 gig ATA.

I have gone to Symantec on the web and updated the program, from memory around a 3 gig download.

What might be wrong with this comp, when Ghost loads OK on another?

560097 2007-06-17 13:06:00 Im sure with Ghost you have to "Initialize" the disk before it'll do anything with it, have you done that? Chilling_Silence (9)
560098 2007-06-17 17:28:00 dont know what you updated at symantec but not one of their programs comes even close to a 3gb download............ drcspy (146)
560099 2007-06-17 19:35:00 Change to ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE. Way better IMHO :)

I used to use all NORTON products :yuck: for many many years but they lost the plot and their products became way to invasive so I have now dumped all of them.

560100 2007-06-17 21:46:00 Ghost? biggest load of norton rubbish about.
Did you ever restore with it?
Did it work?
Time to evaluate what use it is.

Have used it for some years and have needed to recover the total contents of a drive and it worked perfectly every time. Heck, I could recover individual files or individual directories.

U may think it is 'A load of rubbish', but I sure as hell don't.

Not sure what 'Initialize the disk' means. When I tried Ghost on another computer, I just installed it, did nothing else and within about 5 minutes I had a backup. So... yeah, don't know.

Now, you have been around awhile, is Billy T still a member? I remember he used Ghost in a commercial environment, so he might have experienced this oddity and have an answer.

Cheers

560104 2007-06-17 22:25:00 Ghost 2003 was the last real Ghost, the new one is in fact Drive Image.

You can't run it from within Windows, you need a boot floppy or boot CD.
The drive should be formatted first, if its a brand new one.

Ghost 2003 has problems seeing SATA 2 hard drives. It does see SATA 1.

For this reason I have now changed to using Acronis True Image.
Pity....I liked Ghost.

This version is 9, I have seen Ghost V10 but have no idea if either is 2003 or not or even if it is 'Ghost' or 'Drive Image'.

Yes you can run it from within Windows... however if you wish to recover anything, Ghost automatically reboots from the Cd before recovers takes place. Yeah, the drive was formatted and correctly terminated.

My drives are all PATA, so no problem there.

Yeah, I like Ghost too, maybe a trip to Symantec product support will help.
