| 559743 | 2007-06-16 05:55:00 | Hi, I'm wondering if anyone is running DD-WRT firmware on a Linksys router. I'm trying to run it with a DSE modem, but after taking ages to get it configured, the PPP connection continually drops after about a minute or so. I was running the modem with DMZ enabled, and the host IP as 192.168.1.1 (Linksys), and had PPP Half Bridge enabled, which let the Linksys get an external IP etc. What other settings should I have enabled in order for this set up to work? |

I am running DD-WRT V23 SP2 on my Linksys WRT54GL and had a similar setup (modem to router) and mine worked with no problems, but I think that enabling DMZ and PPP Half Bridge will complicate things... why exactly are you doing this? I would just run the DSE modem as its default (no DMZ) and have the Linksys at its default (no PPP Half Bridge) and things should work... but it has been a while since I had that setup. Since I brought a Linksys WAG54G modem I have ran the WRT in switch mode |

I'm wanting to use the Linksys to take care of everything, so I can use the traffic prioritization and all that cool stuff on it. What modem were you running prior to buying your Linksys, and how were you running it? Edit: To clarify, I had the Linksys on all its default settings, it shows my external IP as the WAN. The DSE modem is what I was running with NAT turned off and in half-bride etc. |

I am sure it prioritizes the traffic going through the WAN port (BUT I could be wrong... though it seemed to when I had that setup) I was running a D-Link DSL302G Just normally as if the WRT was a normal PC Client... and changed the settings on that... and any ports I opened on the D-Link |

| 559747 | 2007-06-16 06:53:00 | Yeah the prioritization will deal with traffic going through the WAN port. If I have the modem running normally I would get double NAT happening so port forwarding won't work properly. | roddy_boy (4115) | ||
| 559748 | 2007-06-16 07:24:00 | OK, you need to enter the port forwards in on both the WRT and modem, that way it should work Also under the Apps and Gaming / UPnP menu you can enable the UPnP service and any apps that support UPnP will create their own Port Forwards on it |

| 559749 | 2007-06-16 07:36:00 | Yeah that's a terrible way to do it though. I can't see why running the modem in half-bridge mode isn't working, I'm guessing its the POS modem I'm using that's causing this issue, rather than a configuration issue with the Linksys like I originally thought. | roddy_boy (4115) | ||
| 559750 | 2007-06-16 08:33:00 | Anyone know how do I enabled NAT on the Linksys using DD-WRT? | roddy_boy (4115) | ||
| 559751 | 2007-06-16 08:49:00 | Yes, I agree, but as far as I can see it is the only way... And yes a decent modem would be better :p What is the setting under Setup / Advanced Routing / Operating mode ? the only option that has NAT ability is Gateway... |
The_End_Of_Reality (334) | ||
| 559752 | 2007-06-16 09:00:00 | Yeah it's set to Gateway, but there's no NAT options under there. www.imagef1.net.nz I've been reading other posts, and apparently the PPP half bridge does the decoding of the ADSL signal with the username/password etc, and then forward the connection to a connected device (in this case the Linksys), but it puts a 30 second lease time on the IP, so that may be why it's crapping out, its probably not getting renewed. |
